He began his career as a trainee life underwriter for Equity & Law, before becoming a liability policy specialist and underwriter for Allstate Insurance Company.
In 1985 Neil moved into insurance broking with Jardine Matheson where he was responsible for the insurance programmes of major UK companies. He moved to Sedgwick in 1989, where he gained experience of placing and handling global insurance policies for multinational clients.
Furthering his understanding of insurance and risk impacts in industry, Neil joined Whitbread in 1995, as Assistant Risk Manager. Here, he qualified as a member of the Institute of Risk Management, winning the Overseas Scholarship in 2000. He also gained wide practical risk management experience, ranging from helping to design safe delivery vehicles for Whitbread Beer Company to devising a risk audit system for David Lloyd Leisure Clubs.
More recently, Neil has spent 16 years in the Real Estate industry, leading the insurance teams for both Columbia Threadneedle and Land Securities and helping to shape the corporate risk management framework for both organisations.
Outside of work, Neil and his wife are competitive ballroom dancers, winning the UK Senior Classical Sequence Championship and the Senior Sequence Dance National League titles in 2022.
